Housemarque’s latest PS5 exclusive, Saros, is set to receive a substantial free content update titled Zenith later this year, introducing an endgame boss rush mode along with a modified New Game Plus experience. Announced during PlayStation’s September State of Play, the upcoming expansion aims to add long-term replayability to the sci-fi shooter through competitive score-chasing systems and heightened combat challenges.
The headline addition to the update is Overlord Rush, a dedicated boss rush mode that pits players against the game’s formidable Overlords in sequential combat encounters. The mode incorporates global online leaderboards, explicitly drawing inspiration from Housemarque’s arcade roots seen in titles like Resogun and Nex Machina. By shifting focus toward speed, high scores, and optimized playstyles, Overlord Rush introduces an arcade-style structure into an otherwise narrative-driven single-player experience.
For players seeking an expanded campaign, the Zenith update debuts Eclipse Layers, a customized take on New Game Plus. Rather than simply scaling enemy health and damage output, Eclipse Layers allows players to retain protagonist Arjun Devraj’s progression while introducing new Carcosan Modifiers that alter subsequent playthroughs. The mode also adds fresh secrets to discover and new trophies to unlock, providing additional incentives to re-explore the shifting environments of Carcosa.
Alongside high-difficulty endgame content, the Zenith update incorporates several quality-of-life and accessibility features designed to broaden control options. Housemarque confirmed the addition of gyro aiming support, high-contrast visual modes, and an option to adjust the overall game speed to assist players through frantic combat sequences.
