Terranigma is a very important game that shaped the genre of Action RPGs, and it is also coming back to PC after having been released in many decades ago on the SNES. People loved it, at least those who got their hands in the game back in the day, but it was a very late release in the lifespan of the SNES since the PS1 was practically right there. It made no sense for people to put bucks into the game, so it sadly never garnered the big sale numbers it should have received. Being part of a sort of “trilogy”, this is the third game, but it does not require you to play the previous ones.
Terranigma is coming back
Nobody expected this to happen but it is great to see it is happening, it will be coming from the hands of Limited Run Games however, so if you hate that company just grab a version to emulate it yourself. At the very least this guarantees we will have a great game in physical format, one that goes for a pretty penny in the secondary market if you wanna get an original SNES copy by the way. Not to mention this version will also have interesting fixes to it.
Terranigma is a hidden gem of the SNES library, even if it was eclipsed by the popularity of the Secret of Mana games, the mechanics are tight, the characters memorable, and the story is something great that you should really experience if you wanna call yourself a true gamer. There is a ton of games in the SNES library that need more love, such as Soul Blazer, one of the games related to this so called trilogy, perhaps someday we will see that one get the same treatment and a better translation.
