Square Enix will present new footage and gameplay details for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, August 25, at 2:00 PM Eastern. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi will take the stage at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany, to deliver an updated look at the project following its initial unveiling at Summer Game Fest 2026. Positioned as the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, the title remains on track for a spring 2027 release across current-generation platforms.
Addressing player feedback from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the development team is restructuring how open-world exploration is handled to alleviate player fatigue. Players will gain access to the Highwind airship, enabling travel to long-awaited locations such as Wutai and Mideel under a more structured guidance system. Furthermore, narrative progression will directly alter the environment, as the looming threat of Meteor visually and geographically transforms the planet’s terrain while unleashing classic boss encounters such as the Ruby Weapon and Ultima Weapon.
Combat design is receiving a substantial overhaul via the newly introduced Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system. Drawing direct design cues from the iconic Job system of previous Final Fantasy games, FITS allows party members to swap combat roles dynamically. Each character can equip up to four distinct FITS loadouts, enabling unique builds such as placing Tifa into a Black Mage role or configuring Cait Sith as a dedicated Summoner.
The upcoming presentation is expected to clarify which specific FITS options belong to each character and offer a deeper look at real-time combat adjustments. Attendees and viewers may also see updates on broader franchise integrations, including upcoming crossover material linked with Final Fantasy 14. The broadcast will stream live across major digital platforms for global audiences.
