Agent 64: Spies Never Die is clearly inspired by Golden Eye 007 for the Nintendo 64, this is a love letter for people who enjoyed the jankiness of that game. Now with PC controls it will definitely be more easy to handle than its home console inspiration, which seems to still have a massive following despite the years that went by. Made by a small indie studio, Agent 64: Spies Never Die needs all of our support so it becomes a success and the years spent on making it feel worth it. I have a feeling it will capitalize on this nostalgic niche.
Agent 64: Spies Never Die coming soon
August 11th of 2026 is the release date for this game, and so far there does not seem to be any issues with delays or other kinds of problems. Trying to emulate the older limitations of consoles from the 90s is definitely a challenge, but I’m sure they will manage to pull something that feels similar yet different. While not precisely too creative at first glance, many of these homage games tend to pull something that makes them feel unique and not like some cheap copy trying to capitalize on the original.
Of course, people who are fans of the original Golden Eye 007 will be defending the Nintendo 64 game to death, so Agent 64: Spies Never Die might end up coming under scrutiny in spite of being an original piece. Clones have been a thing in gaming since a very long while, and they have often evolved genres, or managed to prove that those genres just don’t work. Still, I’m not a big fan of derivatives so I might end up having to give Agent 64: Spies Never Die a hard pass. The reason they took so long with it is due to multiplayer features being added.
