Krafton is being forced to pay up for the damages they have caused to the Subnautica 2 developers, and this is due to the fact that the game is successful beyond what was expected. The more copies are being sold by the Subnautica crew, the more money Krafton will have to spit out to compensate for the legal damages caused by them. Hopefully the developers behind Subnautica 2 can just leave them be and become a truly independent studio. This is a very common thing that happens in the industry, publishers trying to steal your game instead of helping you.
Krafton takes the L
Considering they are an “AI” first company, they truly deserve to take all of the loses available, it is beyond pathetic to try and maximize money considering they aren’t even paying people who work at their company at all. Hopefully as time goes on, Krafton has to face more challenges across the road that causes them to eventually abandon the game industry as a whole. We already have many sleazy publishers like Electronic Arts and even Blizzard, we could use some more indie gems instead of terrible “AI” slop games coming from the triple A industry.
For this, we also need more regulations in the medium to ensure snatches of creative IP cannot happen, because the fact that they have been happening for decades is truly a devastating thing to know. Stop Killing Games should try to become a more broad initiative, perhaps trying to push for a more fair environment in the industry that benefits all parties involved. I believe that the game industry can become a dream job for many that actually delivers on the illusion, instead of being this nightmarish landscape where everyone can just steal things from you and put you in legal trouble.
