A recent leak from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering crossover with Star Trek has surfaced online, offering players a first look at an iconic sci-fi character making his debut in the trading card game. The leaked card features Captain James T. Kirk, introducing mechanics specifically designed to support spacecraft-themed decks and card-searching strategies ahead of the set’s official release.
According to the leaked details, the “Captain Kirk, Boldly Going” card is a four-mana Legendary Creature with the typeline Human Officer. Cast using one white, one green, one blue, and one generic mana, the 3/4 creature features the Vigilance keyword and provides a substantial +3/+3 power and toughness boost to all Spacecraft creatures under its owner’s control. Additionally, whenever Captain Kirk enters the battlefield or attacks, players can search their library or graveyard for a basic land or a card named “Starship Enterprise” to place directly into their hand.
The leak suggests that Captain Kirk will serve as a “face Commander” for one of the pre-constructed decks tied to the Star Trek commander subset. The card’s mechanics align closely with archetype foundations laid out in the Edge of Eternities expansion released in August 2025. That space-opera-themed set officially introduced Spacecraft cards to Magic: The Gathering and altered format rules to allow both Vehicle and Spacecraft cards to serve as deck Commanders.
Wizards of the Coast has heavily prioritized crossover content throughout its 2026 release schedule, utilizing the Universes Beyond banner to integrate major pop-culture intellectual properties into the game. The year kicked off with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set in March, alongside confirmed future expansions centered on Marvel Super Heroes and The Hobbit. The highly anticipated Star Trek crossover set is currently scheduled to launch on November 13, 2026, concluding a packed year of both licensed collaborations and traditional in-universe expansions like Lorwyn and Reality Fracture.
