In the September 2026 Nintendo Direct event, publisher Capcom has announced the official release date for the Switch 2 version of last year’s phenomenally successful Monster Hunter Wilds, which is set for December 4 this year. The Switch 2 port of the title is also confirmed to include local play along with all the previous title updates:
“Venture into the Forbidden Lands to track and hunt massive monsters, craft gear, and uncover the mysteries of an ever-changing world,” Nintendo announced.
“Whether playing at home or on the go, hunters can team up locally via wireless play or join friends online with full cross-platform multiplayer support. All Title Update content is included, such as the Grand Hub, fan-favorite monsters like Mizutsune and Lagiacrus, the FINAL FANTASY XIV Online collaboration, and more. Monster Hunter Wilds launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on Dec. 4.”
Nintendo has also confirmed that the upcoming expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, titled ‘Ascendance’ will arrive for the handheld console at some point in next year. The new expansion is also set to come out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in next year and it’s currently unknown whether it’ll arrive simultaneously on all of the platforms or not.
Capcom had announced earlier this year that Monster Hunter Wilds was set for a Switch 2 release but didn’t provide a concrete release window, which makes the recent announcement of the handheld port a delightful surprise.
Monster Hunter Wilds came out in February last year and the game turned out to be a massive hit for the publisher, with over 10 million units sold in just it’s first month of release, thereby setting a new record for Capcom. Although the predecessor to Monster Hunter Wilds, 2018’s Monster Hunter World still remains the best-selling title for Capcom ever with more than 30 million sold units worldwide.
