Nintendo Confirms Return to Gamescom 2026

Nintendo has officially announced its return to Cologne, Germany, for Gamescom 2026, confirming its presence on the Koelnmesse show floor for the full duration of the event from August 26 to August 30. The decision marks a consecutive appearance for the platform holder following its presence at last year’s convention. While the company has verified its schedule, it has yet to disclose the specific software lineup or hardware demonstrations prepared for the public.

The announcement follows a pivotal year for the company, which utilized Gamescom 2025 to showcase its newly launched Switch 2 hardware alongside major titles like Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This year’s exhibition arrives during a busy summer schedule, falling just ahead of a scheduled $50 retail price hike for the Switch 2 on September 1. To maintain consumer momentum before the price adjustment, Nintendo recently introduced updated hardware bundles featuring digital copies of Mario Kart World or Pokemon Pokopia.

Industry expectations for the booth focus heavily on Nintendo’s late 2026 release calendar. Splatoon Raiders, a single-player spin-off exploring the Spirhalite Islands, is scheduled to launch on July 23, making it a primary candidate for hands-on floor demos. Additionally, Intelligent Systems’ upcoming strategy title, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, remains slated for a general 2026 window and could receive its first public gameplay showcase during the event. Unconfirmed projects, including a rumored remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, also continue to circulate among attendees.

Gamescom has maintained its position as Europe’s largest interactive entertainment trade show since its 2009 inception. The five-day event will commence with the traditional Opening Night Live broadcast, hosted by Geoff Keighley, which frequently serves as the platform for major industry reveals and cinematic trailers. Nintendo is expected to share specific details regarding its booth layout, tournament schedules, and playable titles through its regional social media channels closer to the August opening.
