NetEase Games has officially launched Season 8 of Marvel Rivals, introducing the highly anticipated Vanguard character Devil Dinosaur alongside a sweeping balance patch designed to disrupt the current competitive meta. The “Sins of Alchemax” update delivers direct tuning to over a dozen heroes, targeting dominant strategies while injecting fresh utility into underutilized kits.
The headline adjustments focus on high-priority picks that have dictated recent competitive formats. Invisible Woman, who currently maintains the highest pick rate in the game, received targeted reductions to her control potential, with her Force Physics ability seeing both its push distance reduced to 10 meters and its damage lowered to 50. Meanwhile, the Vanguard variant of Deadpool has been reined in to keep his damage output and survivability in check; his “The Ban Hammer” Ultimate healing has been halved to 25 health per second, and his baseline dual-weapon damage has taken a minor hit across both standard and upgraded states.
Conversely, the update brings vital core buffs to several Duelists and Strategists struggling to find consistent footing. Frontline fighters like Iron Fist and Moon Knight received mobility and combo fluidity upgrades, while Star-Lord and Wolverine saw improvements to weapon capacity and health regeneration cooldowns respectively. In the Strategist role, Mantis undergoes a significant mechanical shift, trading a portion of her baseline damage-boosting capability for a flat movement speed buff to carve out a distinct positioning niche alongside newer roster additions.
Beyond individual character tuning, Season 8 introduces powerful mechanical synergies via Team-Up Abilities. The new “Primal Punishment” duo allows Devil Dinosaur and The Punisher to pool resources, granting the prehistoric Vanguard bonus health while unlocking an exclusive ability for the vigilante. NetEase also confirmed that the competitive landscape will shift again mid-season, with X-Men leader Cyclops scheduled to debut in the upcoming version 8.5 update.
