The Steam Workshop just got a makeover in the form of several new updates that’ll bring a number of improvements into the service including making browsing easier and will provide a nice boost in responsiveness on both the Steam Deck and in the Big Picture mode. The update, which was first announced on April 7 and is now in it’s Beta state, will make the viewing experience even easier by widening the Browsing page that will allow for more items and bigger preview images on every page, thus making it far more streamlined with better filtering options.

“Filters can now be configured by game developers to apply (and appear) for certain types of items. For Workshops that contain both Maps and Items, developers can define which types each filter should apply to,” Valve states.

The updates will also improve responsiveness on the Steam Deck, mobile and the Big Picture mode, thus making them pretty much essential if you own the handheld console. And in terms of new additions in the main UI, there’s a quick view option that you can access by clicking a magnifying glass in the corner of each item which will enable you to preview items, favorite them, subscribe to creators, or vote on items without exiting the browsing experience. Overall, the new features help make Steam Workshop a much more seamless and refined experience so if you use it often, make sure to get the updates as soon as you can.

Valve also stated that “Millions of users browse the Steam Workshop every month, and there are dozens of ways to interact with the user interface while doing it. Unfortunately, most interactions with the page required a full page reload, which significantly slowed down the browsing process.”

However, the update to Steam Workshop is still in it’s Beta and will remain that way for multiple weeks at least and Valve will continue to improve it further by taking feedback from players worldwide.
