Epic Games Store will be coming to Linux soon according to some newly revealed information. This is great, but we already have things like Heroic Launcher and thousands of other open source projects to handle our digital game library. While great for people who aren’t proficient with tech, this won’t really change the dominance Steam has over the market, as the PC is pretty much Valve’s territory. Perhaps they will add some more features to the Epic Games Store, but I doubt that they will do it because they wanna save money, so they will probably layoff more people instead.
Epic Games Store coming to Linux
We don’t know when that will happen, but it really doesn’t matter in the great scheme of things when you consider all other alternatives and software available. It feels like a desperate flailing attempt coming from Epic to try and get some user base despite Steam basically having all of it. Whatever is happening at Epic Games to try and get the Linux user base might not be a good thing because it reeks of desperation and not knowing what to do next. Businesses, by the rules of our current society, need to keep scaling and adding stuff nobody asked for when they could just remain doing what they know best.
Alas, as we all know it, the 2020s has been an era of pushing unnecessary changes and features nobody ever wanted or even considered. CEOs from left to right trying to push the idea that gamers only care about technology instead of games being fun, among with many other issues that keep mounting as trust in the industry erodes due to “AI”. Companies really don’t care about the average customer anymore unless they are independent or small studios that love the things they do.
