No Man’s Sky has pulled its boldest update yet if you ask me, they pretty much did the unthinkable by just adding the ability to tame beasts and use them for battle. This is Xeno Arena, which is pretty much just Pokémon but in a procedurally generated world, and it is crazy that we are even seeing this in the first place. It is clear that this is based in the early days of the franchise, so it technically makes it immune from lawsuits handed out by Nintendo. The fact that you can even mix and match certain creatures also gives it vibes from other Monster Raising franchises that exist.
No Man’s Sky gets bolder
No Man’s Sky has always been a game about breaking limits, even when it was being developed back in 2016, when it flopped due to being too ambitious. Today we remember the effort Hello Games put into actually making things what they are now, and nobody would have thought this simple procedural generation experiment would have gone as far as it did. Some thought the game was gonna be a flop, and that there would be nothing to enjoy from it, but they were wrong, a ton of new things popped up and the major grievances got fixed.
The story of No Man’s Sky is one of constant struggle, and its definitely one of the biggest comebacks in the history of indie games. It was so big that it also became a trend setter for doing the same exact thing, which in hindsight is the biggest curse of modern gaming. With the Early Access system, you can just drop a minimum viable product first, ask for payment, and then develop with the free feedback coming from the people who play it. It is crazy how the job of a beta tester is something people are willing to pay to do.
