We’ve finally gotten confirmation for the first major voice actor for Rockstar’s upcoming GTA 6, the most anticipated videogame of all time, and it seems the ‘reveal’ was not part of Rockstar’s tight marketing plan. Stephen Root, who had voiced Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland in the popular animated series King of the Hill, has recently confirmed his involvement in GTA 6 during an interview with the Associated Press.
“Yeah, you’re gonna see me in it,” Root said. “It’s coming out November 19th, is the latest I know of. I think from the first rollout of GTA they were doing maybe almost a year ago they had my character in there. And there are too many people who knew me from King of the Hill and my voice! So I think that secret kind of got divulged then.”
The in-game character that he’s voicing is likely Brian Heder, who’s a drug trafficker and apparent boatyard owner seen speaking to protagonist Jason about paying rent in the second trailer of GTA 6. We’ve also seen more of the character in the Netflix extended look at GTA 6 where he offers Jason some words of advice, and knowing Rockstar’s intricate character focused storytelling, Heder may play a key role in the core narrative of the game.
Also, Rockstar’s official GTA 6 site provides a brief outline on the character:
“Brian’s a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys. Still moving product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori, Brian’s been around long enough to let others do his dirty work.
“Brian’s letting Jason live rent-free at one of his properties — so long as he helps with local shakedowns, and stops by for Lori’s sangria once in a while.”
GTA 6 is currently slated to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
