Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has recently stated that the next generation of Xbox or what’s currently known as Project Helix, will be “a great family of devices.” In a recent interview with BBC at Gamescom, the CEO suggested that the next era of Xbox could be more than just a single box and perhaps something that’s closer to an entire ecosystem altogether:
“We’re not sharing more on Helix, I know you had to ask it,” she said when asked whether the next Xbox will be completely disc-less just like the next Playstation, “But look, we’ve been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix, and we’ll share more soon.”
Previously, Sharma had also revealed that they are currently focused on making the next generation of Xbox far more cost-effective and efficient.
“This next generation, we have to be thinking about efficiency and affordability alongside performance,” she said.
“All of the industry needs to start to innovate on affordability and efficiency,” she continued. “That is something that we have not had to do. But with the crisis that’s currently happening in hardware and components, it is absolutely something all of us need to be thinking about and innovating on and giving people more choice in terms of how they play their console and how they purchase their console.”
She had also acknowledged the amount of love players have for physical media and assured that they want to provide gamers a choice when it comes to purchasing:
“I know players love physical media, and I know there’s a lot of benefits in digital media, and I want to make sure people have a choice. There are stacks of games on everybody’s shelves,” she said.
Xbox has also announced their Disc-to-Digital program recently which will let players digitalize their library of physical games, allowing them to put their Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S discs into their console and receive a digital version of their owned games, thus ensuring a permanent library of digital titles.
