The most anticipated videogame of all time, Rockstar’s GTA 6 will be available in two variants–one is the standard edition which costs $80 while the bona-fide, Ultimate edition comes with a price tag of $100 and also includes a whole array of unlockables ranging from bonus story missions to in-game items, equipment and additional customization. This effectively means that the Ultimate edition will actually be the go-to version of GTA 6 as practically no one would want to miss out on the extra story missions, after waiting that long for the game to arrive.
And for the first time after the official announcement of the pricing for the upcoming open world behemoth, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has spoken on the prices as in a recent interview with IGN, he emphasized that the prices are strictly based on the overall value of GTA 6, which is obviously enormous, for all intents and purposes.
“We aim always to deliver vastly more value than what we charge,” he said. “And we think that price point allows us to do just that. And then of course we have a premium opportunity for people who want to avail themselves of that. And even that one, again, we think is priced in a way so as to deliver much more value than what we’re charging.”
“Look, I think that Rockstar got it right in terms of the pricing of this standard edition and the pricing of the deluxe edition,” he said. “And I think there’s no doubt that consumers are really excited about both. And I think depending on your own ability to pay and how avid a consumer you are, you can choose between them. But the preorders have been exceptional and we’re happy with the mix as well.
“The truth is that the real cost of a AAA video game is a whole lot lower today than it was 20 years ago. Pricing has not kept pace with inflation. And our goal is to continue to over-deliver for our consumers, because how you feel about any experience is the intersection of the experience itself and what you pay for it. So to say that we expect that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be an incredible bargain as experiences go is a gross understatement, because Rockstar Games is known for over-delivering.”
The CEO also made it clear that just because the starting price of GTA 6 is a whopping $80, it doesn’t mean other games from the publisher will also bump up their prices, pointing to the $50 price point for Mafia: The Old Country.
GTA 6 is slated to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
