Ahead of its scheduled appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live, publisher Paradox Interactive has inadvertently revealed details regarding its next major strategy title, Afterworld. Listings on the company’s official forum and a brief leak of an associated community server indicate the upcoming game will merge the studio’s signature grand strategy systems with a post-apocalyptic survival setting.
The initial hint appeared on the official Paradox Forums, where community members noticed Afterworld added to an unreleased games filter menu. Shortly after, details surfaced from a community Discord server before access was restricted. The server’s description outlined a grand strategy experience centered on leading survivor tribes, recovering lost technology, managing wasteland settlements, and engaging in regional warfare and political conflict.
While Paradox has previously published sci-fi titles such as Stellaris and survival strategy games like Surviving the Aftermath, a dedicated post-apocalyptic grand strategy project marks a direct entry into a genre long dominated by narrative-driven RPGs. The leaked premise suggests a focus on territorial management and resource competition in a ruined world, adapting traditional grand strategy mechanics—such as diplomacy, technology trees, and faction control—to a wasteland setting.
Paradox Interactive has not issued an official statement regarding the leak. However, the publisher has been actively teasing an announcement set for August 25 during Gamescom. If legitimate, Afterworld will be formally unveiled alongside other major titles during the event’s opening presentation.
