Developer S-Game has confirmed that pre-orders for the upcoming Phantom Blade Zero will go live next week, along with a new 11-minute trailer that’s expected to provide a glimpse of the game’s narrative, characters, combat and “something unexpected.” Pre-orders for Phantom Blade will kick off on August 11 at 7 PM PT via the PlayStation Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the new trailer will give you a pretty good indication of whether you want to pre-order or not.
Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming Soulslike game with elements of RPG mechanics sprinkled in, which should make for a challenging and rewarding gameplay experience, and is slated to release on October 29 this year. The game was most recently showcased during the Playstation State of Play event in June, featuring it’s unique combat system along with enemy designs. And if you haven’t seen it yet, check it out below:
Besides the finesse-based combat, the upcoming Phantom Blade Zero also features a unique ‘Honor’ system where you can influence the game’s central narrative through your choices in a myriad of ways. The choices can also have a butterfly effect and heavily impact or even alter the main questline, which will result in huge amounts of replayability. And hopefully we’ll find out more about the mechanics along with the game’s Souls-inspired combat system when the new trailer comes out on August 11.
In other news of Phantom Blade Zero, developer S-Game had also previously confirmed that they’ve avoided any form of AI usage for the making of their game. According to the devs, as they had wrote in a lengthy post on Twitter/X, ‘human artistry is not merely a means for creating value; it is the value itself’, which is just phenomenally put and pretty awe-inspiring to hear a developer valuing the human element in videogames as much.
Hands-on previews of Phantom Blade Zero have suggested that it’s not an out-an-out Soulslike title but actually leans more toward action games like Stellar Blade which should be plenty exciting in many ways.
