Halo Studios Suffer Layoffs After Campaign Evolved’s Launch

One of the most anticipated shooters of this year is the newly-released Halo Campaign Evolved which is a modernized remake of the classic Halo Combat Evolved that also reinvents the original gameplay experience for the current-gen era. And although it received mostly favorable reviews upon release, developer Halo Studios has been hit with layoffs as several of the staff have shared on LinkedIn that they’re leaving the company.

Among the affected devs is Nick Treitman, a producer at the studio, has revealed that he’s not part of the company anymore.

“After 6.5 years working on Halo and dodging just as many rounds of layoffs – it has finally caught up to me. I have nothing but love for Halo and the folks at the studio, this is just a tough reality in the gaming industry right now.

I am open to new roles as a Producer/Project Manager working remotely or hybrid in the Seattle area.

During my time, I have had the honor of supporting multiple amazing teams ranging from Art, Networking, Localization, Narrative, and being the Product Owner of Halo Infinites social multiplayer pillar.”

Another developer who has been affected by the layoffs is Paul Morris, who also confirmed that he’s being let go from the studio as well:

“Today, I learned my time at Halo Studios will be coming to an end following the successful launch of our latest game, Halo: Campaign Evolved.

I know this is one of the most challenging job markets our industry has seen, and I know the road ahead won’t be easy.

But I’m not done, and my purpose has not changed.”

Granted that Halo: Campaign Evolved did not get the kind of glowing reviews and response that the studio and the publisher have hoped for, but it’s also inherently unfair that whenever a game falls short of expectations, it’s almost always the devs who end up paying for it in the form of layoffs or job cuts. Last year’s Dragon Age Veilguard saw this with almost an entire division of Bioware being let go by EA and now we’re seeing the same with Halo Studios.
