Marvel’s Wolverine will be out in just a little over two weeks on the Playstation 5 and developer Insomniac has provided a brief description of the game’s story and it’s suite of gameplay mechanics in a recent blog post which also details some of the in-game abilities that you can unlock and upgrade throughout the course of the game. As shown in the new ‘Game Features’ trailer, the upcoming Wolverine sports a DNA-based skill tree where you can unlock lots of exciting abilities ranging from both active and passive ones that can affect the overall gameplay experience in different ways:
“Evolve with Adaptations that amplify Logan’s momentum on the battlefield. Absorb more bullets, increase Rage effectiveness, expand parry windows, or straight up terrorize foes during mid-fight. This only scratches the surface; there are dozens of Adaptations to tune to your playstyle.”
Overall, the skill-tree-based upgrade system is pretty similar to Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles, and just like the iconic web-slinger, the upcoming Wolverine also features a slew of costumes spanning different eras of the character’s history which can also serve as really fun easter eggs for many fans.
Insomniac has also provided the following run-down on the various side-activities that you’ll be doing in Wolverine:
“While you’re out travelling the world, testing your battle skills against villains like Omega Red and Deathstrike, make sure to chop it up with your crew or take a detour between encounters: use senses to seek out Nightmare Doors to complete a variety of combat and traversal challenges; sniff out collectible whisky bottles to uncover Logan’s forgotten memories; or listen for material crates to craft suits inspired by comics, movies, animation, and more.”
Marvel’s Wolverine comes out in two different editions–the Standard version of the game will cost you $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe version sports a price tag of $79.99. There’s no mention of a collector’s edition that’s geared towards enthusiasts so if you were hoping for physical collectibles like statues and maybe action figures, looks like there won’t be any of that.
Wolverine is slashing his way into the Playstation 5 on September 15, 2026.
