Devolver Digital might be one of the most important publishers in the low budget game sphere, some say they are an indie publisher but I consider that term to be an oxymoron. Independent developers rely on themselves to do things and often produce way better results than what triple A companies do nowadays. Even back in the day we have had banger games coming from single developers like Cave Story and more. Today’s gaming market needs a big shake up if it needs to keep living, and the hopes of survival rely on small developers and indie creators who want to do something awesome.
Devolver Digital has plans
They announced they wanna go private, and trying to do so will prove to be quite hard, Devolver Digital has a long road ahead. They have done a good choice in wanting to pursue private status as a company so they can avoid bad faith investing from outsiders. There has been many issues happening recently with companies going public and then the quality tanking pretty hard. The future of gaming is made by these small companies, similar to how in the past companies like Square Soft and Konami were small players that eventually got pretty big.
The cycle repeats, we are seeing history being made, and its always the same things which gives a sense of deja vu in a way. As long as the games that come with publishing deals from Devolver Digital remain good, then there’s nothing to worry about, quality should be the forefront of everything. We are dealing with lack of inspiration and stagnation in the industry, fake promises of a tech revolution that never happens. What really needs to happen is a revolution of creativity that can bring us some very interesting games, games that we can remember.
