Asus has officially opened pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20, setting the standalone price tag at $1,299 ahead of its October 15 release date. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft to mark the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Gamers brand, this premium PC gaming handheld revisits the partnership established with earlier models while repositioning the line strictly toward high-end enthusiasts.
The headline addition to the X20 is its 7.4-inch 1080p OLED touchscreen, which hits up to 120Hz refresh rates and peak HDR brightness levels of 1,400 nits. Underneath the translucent black chassis—adorned with nostalgic gold accents across the cooling hardware—the core processing power remains identical to the existing Ally X. It retains the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and the standard 80Wh battery capacity.
Rather than chasing raw frame-rate increases, Asus focused its engineering efforts on structural ergonomics and input precision. The X20 introduces magnetic TMR joysticks designed to eliminate stick drift, alongside a transforming D-pad that toggles between four-way and eight-way directional modes. Further structural adjustments include reshaped bumper buttons, deeper trigger travel, rubberized rear grips, and domed ABXY face buttons engineered to sit flush when fully compressed.
