Ubisoft has been forced to scrap its upcoming weekend community event for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced after an independent player inadvertently discovered the grand prize and shared its location online. The community treasure hunt, originally scheduled to go live on July 17, was designed to challenge players across the globe to locate a highly prized cosmetic reward that many fans initially feared had been cut from the final game.
The reward in question, the rare Explorer Outfit for protagonist Edward Kenway, was uncovered by a Reddit user operating under the handle “-Holliday.” According to the player’s forum post, the discovery was entirely accidental and occurred during a standard exploration run following a naval contract. Attracted to a specific set of air bubbles rising to the water’s surface, the player utilized the game’s overhauled underwater mechanics to dive down, unexpectedly stumbling upon the hidden developer chest.
The chest was located in the southwestern quadrant of the game’s oceanic map, positioned precisely at coordinates 28 x 292. Prior to this discovery, community members had believed the Explorer Outfit was completely absent from the remake, as it was not readily available through standard progression paths. Ubisoft had intended to guide the player base toward these coordinates using a series of daily riddles over the weekend, but the early leak effectively derailed those logistical plans.
Despite the disruption to their live-service schedule, Ubisoft representatives responded to the incident with good humor on social media, posting a custom franchise-themed graphic acknowledging the community’s swift scouting capabilities. The incident caps off a massive launch week for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which shattered franchise records on Steam by peaking at over 99,000 concurrent players and securing more than two million unit sales within its first 24 hours on the market.
