Ecstatica is Resident Evil before Resident Evil was even a thing, it pretty much set the pillars for the survival horror genre in 3D to exist. However, PC gaming wasn’t a particularly popular thing back then and Japanese games dominated the lives of every gamer who were mostly console gamers. This led to Resident Evil being called the pioneer, even if they actually didn’t do anything aside from the making 3D survival horror games better, but it was the one that left a long lasting impression. Ecstatica is coming back, better than ever it seems, and it will keep that same crustiness from the old days.
Ecstatica will re-release
Re-releases aren’t that common, because they will always find a way to ruin it with some unnecessary remaster that makes the game look worse. Nobody plays remasters compared to remakes, so the best thing one can do is make the old games run and polish some things that didn’t work in the original, if any problem pops up that is. Many of these games were built to last and also designed on good coding practices that nowadays are completely ignored, resource saving isn’t taken as seriously as it should be taken.
Ecstatica uses very primitive techniques of 3D renderization that truly revolutionized the world of video games, and it makes me wonder why it does not get talked about that often. You can pick between a male and female character too, a thing that was later applauded many years ago in a Fallout game as if it were truly revolutionary. It makes me feel that people in general don’t know the history behind games and their development, alas that’s what the mega companies appeal to nowadays. If you are interested on experiencing the good old days of tech advancements, you should check Ecstatica out.
