Double Fine is a very important studio, and the fact that they have managed to go indie means that we will have some quality games coming from them. This means that we might end up seeing something new done with Psychonauts, or perhaps even something entirely different like Kiln. We need new game ideas, and Double Fine has proved to be more than fit to provide us something interesting, at least narrative wise. It would be neat to see what they end up making next, but we have to remember that the industry is under threat of collapsing, at least in the West.
Double Fine survives
id Software dying was unexpected, Double Fine surviving was something impressive too, some said that the year 2026 would be an interesting one for gaming, and honestly I think they were predicting this very moment. It is insane that this is happening in the first place and it should become illegal. There should be more ways to actually safeguard job security, especially in the gaming industry which is known to be the worst place you can work at when it comes to tech. Technology as a whole in 2026 and even before feels pretty cutthroat.
Double Fine being fine is a good thing however, and while we don’t know what the future will hold for them, it is still much better than them just collapsing under the weight of Microsoft. Who would have thought that the only thing that matters about that outdated operating system was gaming? And also that they are gutting down gaming too. As things keep evolving in the industry, more changes end up happening that may or may not benefit everyone, these layoffs are horrifying, but I do have hopes for a better future where the big studios with talent can go indie.
