Ubisoft is bringing its post-launch support for Assassin’s Creed Shadows to a close with the upcoming release of Update 1.1.11, introducing a brand-new end-game activity alongside the definitive final chapter for the game’s dual protagonists. Dropping on June 16, the update marks the final major content drop for the historical action-RPG before the studio shifts its focus toward upcoming franchise projects like Black Flag Resynced.
The headline addition to the update is a highly replayable end-game mode called Domains. Designed as an “Animus-bending” tactical challenge, the mode features five distinct maps remixed from locations in the base game. Players can test their character builds across 10 escalating difficulty settings, with higher tiers introducing random gameplay modifiers. Progression through a Domain requires players to eliminate high-value targets known as Daishos to unlock a final arena, where they face one of three Animus-corrupted boss characters. To balance the difficulty, an NPC named MOD can hack the simulation to grant players temporary “Animus Exploits,” while a dedicated merchant will offer unique armor sets, weapons, and powerful stat-altering engravings.
Narrative closure arrives in the form of a free story chapter titled Black Tides. Serving as the epilogue to the journeys of both Naoe and Yasuke, the questline introduces the Black Cross—a pair of elite, high-ranking Templars who arrive in Japan specifically tasked with hunting down the two assassins. According to Ubisoft’s development team, the narrative will resolve the overarching conflict of the campaign, and official promotional material has heavily hinted at a crossover appearance from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey protagonist Kassandra.
Accessing the final story content will require players to have completed the main campaign as well as prior DLC updates, specifically the Critical Role crossover mission, A Critical Encounter. However, developers clarified that completing the Claws of Awaji expansion is not a prerequisite to unlock this true ending. Following this final patch, the development team at Ubisoft Quebec will formally conclude active development on the title, drawing a line under the 2025 release.
