Stellar Blade Blood Rain, which is an expansion of Stellar Blade, has been announced in this year’s Summer Game Fest with a trailer showcasing the narrative backdrop, a whole new protagonist named Evie and some of the new gameplay mechanics. Developed by Shift Up, the upcoming title may seem like a sequel to Stellar Blade but it’s been officially titled as an expansion featuring a new combat system that looks equally terrific as that of the previous game, a post-cyberpunk world and more. Check out the new trailer below:
The biggest change in Stellar Blade Blood Rain from the first Stellar Blade is instead of having a sword as a weapon, you’ll have a set of gauntlets that can do all sorts of highly damaging as well as stylish moves for taking out your foes. And although there are lots of changes from it’s predecessor, the resulting combat system in Blood Rain seems equally fast, flashy and satisfying, while also having some aerial maneuverability that look fantastic. If anything, the combat seems way more melee heavy than it’s predecessor, although there might be some additions in the gameplay by the time it’s released.
However as it’s still in the early phase of development with no release window given so far, the final gameplay could be even better and have more depth along with replayability.
Stellar Blade was one of 2024’s best action adventure releases that also came out on the PC last year and went on to earn the title of the best-selling PlayStation exclusive on PC, surpassing other AAA heavyweights such as Marvel’s Spider-Man (both 1 and 2), God of War, Ghost of Tshushima and more. Stellar Blade’s staggering player counts on the PC also officially cemented the game as the highest selling Playstation port ever, which is a mighty impressive feat especially considering the games it outperformed and how little hype it had compared to the others.
