Steam Machine was a pretty hyped project from the hands of Valve, the hype died down very quickly today when the price got revealed. $1049 bucks is an insane ask for something that does not surpass the PS5 in power, things would have been much better if Valve’s option could be more cheap. However as we know it the current hardware crisis caused by “AI” and all of the peddlers behind it has pretty much ruined the enthusiast PC building hobby. Knowing this, Valve technically implied that this would happen, and now we are paying the price of “AI”, albeit in a minor way.
Steam Machine flops
Its not even out yet and its already a big flop price wise, but we can’t really fault Valve for doing this. It still is egregious that for the price of point you don’t even get to keep a joystick, so what’s left is the attractive form factor the unit presents. It’s literally a GameCube in shape, but inside it packs the components of a decent gaming PC, albeit, one that many might already have in their homes. Another cool thing about it is the fact that maybe this is the surefire way to get something that works instead of building the PC yourself.
However, that wasn’t the point of the Steam Machine, the Steam Machine was meant to be a budget option for people who wanted to jump into PC gaming, unfortunately “AI” denied us of this thanks to hardware shortage. It is sad that we live in the current tech landscape because “AI” is truly ruining a ton of things that made life worth it. Fortunately enough, people are starting to see the whole scam behind it, and its not even a question of if the bubble will pop anymore, but when.
