Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remaster will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23. The surprise announcement was shared via social media just hours ahead of today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast. The upcoming port brings the celebrated role-playing duology to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware, carrying a $49.99 price tag with preorders already live on the Nintendo Store.
This incoming compilation bundles both the landmark 2001 entry and its 2003 sequel, offering well over 100 hours of combined gameplay. Players can expect the inclusion of international version content—such as exclusive boss battles—alongside both original and rearranged soundtracks. Quality-of-life adjustments also make the transition, including toggleable random encounters and a high-speed mode to accelerate progression.
However, prospective buyers should note a few logistical hurdles with this new edition. Save data from the standard Nintendo Switch version will not transfer over to the Switch 2 port. Furthermore, the North American release will remain strictly digital, as Square Enix has no current plans for a physical distribution outside of Japan. Domestic physical copies in Japan will use Nintendo’s newly introduced Game-Key Card format, a distribution method that continues to spark discussion across the industry.
The timing aligns closely with the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 10, a title widely remembered for introducing full voice acting to the storied franchise. Beyond the remaster, Square Enix used the broader Nintendo Direct presentation to detail its upcoming software pipeline. The publisher revealed Final Fantasy Resonance, an HD-2D title launching October 22, while confirming that Final Fantasy 14 will hit the Switch 2 in August 2026, followed by Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in Spring 2027.
