The original Hitman trilogy of games remain some of the most memorable and highly enjoyable examples of the stealth-action genre, in fact several of the earlier titles in the Hitman series are still cited to be some of the most defining games in it’s genre. But if you haven’t been playing for that long, chances are you may have missed those entirely and only know the Hitman series by some of it’s latest entries like World of Assassination or Absolution. However, thanks to the upcoming remaster of the classic Hitman trilogy, you’ll have the chance to experience those earlier gems in the series, complete with all the current-gen technical standards.
Announced by Saber Interactive and IO Interactive yesterday, the upcoming Hitman trilogy remake brings the first three games which are Hitman: Codename 47, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, and Hitman: Contracts with updated visuals, a photo mode and more. So even if you have already played these titles, you may find yourself wanting to play them all over again thanks to the upgraded character models, enhanced environments, high-resolution textures and of course, a more polished overall gameplay experience.
Also, as described in the official steam page, the upcoming remaster includes a feature called ‘Instant Graphics Toggle’ which allows you to “switch seamlessly between the original presentation and the enhanced visuals”, so you can play the older games exactly how you remember them or turn on the array of modern graphical features.
“The legendary trilogy that forged the HITMAN legacy has been painstakingly rebuilt, honoring the ruthless atmosphere and unparalleled agency that defined a series. Whether returning to the field or taking on your first assignment, HITMAN Classic Trilogy Remastered will provide the ultimate entry into Agent 47’s early career,” reads the official game announcement.
The remaster also hints that newer mainline entries in the series are in the pipeline for IO Interactive as this collection of older titles serves as a delightful blast from the past and a great way to get all newer players up to speed with the roots of the series.
