God of War Laufey stars Faye, Kratos’ wife in an all-new adventure that takes place after her death in Ragnarok and the upcoming title is set to be a lot more action oriented experience in the same vein as the much older entries in the God of War series. And while the recent State of Play gameplay trailer may hint at Laufey being more of a self contained, spin-off title, it seems it’s actually part of a much larger and deeper repertoire of planned projects and games based on the Norse saga of the God of War franchise.
According to actress Deborah Ann Woll (in an interview with Comic Games Magazine) who plays the main protagonist in God of War Laufey, she had known about the game for around a decade: ‘I’ve known about this for nearly ten years,’ also saying that it was 2018 when she was first pitched with the idea of Laufey. This effectively indicates an extremely well thought out and long-term lineup of titles from Sony in which the upcoming game is a part of as according to Woll, the concept and ideas for Laufey had already found it’s place internally back when God of War 2018 came out which kickstarted the Norse saga in the franchise.
She also confirmed that the devs already had the artwork for God of War: Laufey ready at the time when head of creative Cory Barlog brought her in to discuss Ragnarok:
“He pitched it to me in 2018, and they had known about it before then. It’s wild. Like when Cory brought me in to talk about doing Ragnarök and show me the 2018 game, he already had a poster for the Laufey game with me and a cube. A cube that’s been there since the beginning. It’s deeply a part of the lore.”
The actress also revealed that the upcoming God of War Laufey will take players into a whole new part of the universe that has been completely unexplored till now:
“We want this to be huge. We want you to feel like there’s such an untapped universe. And this is just the beginning of a step into some of that.”
