It seems between the upcoming Songs of the Past Expansion for The Witcher 3 and the long awaited The Witcher 4 which is not supposed to release before at least a year or even more, there’s another game in the franchise currently at works that was previously known as ‘Codename Sirius’. And recently, many of it’s details have come out regarding what to expect from the game, the platforms it’s going to be released and more.
As it turns out, ‘Codename Sirius’ is actually a multiplayer-only title, indicating a drastically different flavor of experience from the franchise’s past entries. Now one of the least-liked aspects of The Witcher 3 was it’s combat system but if the upcoming title manages to improve it in multiple ways, it’ll truly result in an experience that’s more than worthy of the pedigree of the franchise.
According to reports from MP1st, the upcoming game is a free-to-play co-op action RPG and ‘currently targets only PC and mobile devices, with no mention of console platforms.’ Moreover, the following details have been revealed on it’s narrative background and overall gameplay experience which seems really promising:
‘The story is set in the year 1230, during a time when Geralt was still a young witcher. The game will put you in the boots of your very own customizable witcher, featuring the standard options you’d expect from a multiplayer experience, like gender and appearance customization.
Gameplay-wise, the title will take you on contracts to kill monsters across several environments that players have come to expect from the series, such as dark forests, vibrant villages, and haunted ruins. A skill-based system drives the combat mechanics, letting you choose abilities from different Witcher schools, shaping your moveset by mastering Signs and brewing potions. This combat is said to reward player skill with well-timed blocks, dodges, parries, and executions.’
And while the game may not reach the dizzying heights of it’s predecessor, it can still turn out to be an immensely engaging experience for all fans of the series.
