Bit Reactor and Respawn Reveal Anakin Skywalker for Star Wars: Zero Company

Summer Game Fest 2026 has delivered its first major surprise with a new gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Zero Company, confirming that Anakin Skywalker will appear in the upcoming turn-based tactical game. Developed as a joint collaboration between Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment, the title has long been described by onlookers as a marriage between the mechanical depth of XCOM and the expansive lore of the Star Wars universe. The recent footage confirmed that the previously leaked release date of August 27 is correct, with the game scheduled to launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The inclusion of Anakin Skywalker introduces a compelling narrative element to the project. Because Star Wars: Zero Company takes place during the height of the Clone Wars, players will interact with a version of Skywalker who has not yet fallen to the dark side. While Bit Reactor has kept specific details regarding his exact role in the campaign under wraps, his presence suggests that the story will weave iconic Jedi lore into its otherwise gritty, ground-level military perspective.

Beyond the narrative reveal, the trailer provided a deeper look at the core gameplay systems that define the experience. True to the heritage of the development team—which includes several veterans from Firaxis Games—Zero Company features customizable squads, modifiable weaponry, and the high-stakes threat of permanent character death. Players will command various unit types, including playable droids and Clone operatives, while utilizing Force powers to manipulate the battlefield. The emphasis on high-stakes tactical combat positions the game as a spiritual alternative for strategy enthusiasts who have been waiting for a new entry in the XCOM franchise.

The presentation concluded a busy week for the franchise, which also saw the announcement of Star Wars: Galactic Racer from Fuse Games and Secret Mode, set to debut on October 6. With Zero Company arriving in late August, fans of the property are looking at a diverse lineup of interactive experiences in the latter half of the year. Additional updates regarding Skywalker’s mechanics and campaign progression are expected closer to the August launch.

Playground Games Confirms 15-to-20 Hour Campaign for Fable Reboot Playground Games has confirmed that the upcoming Fable reboot will feature a mainline story lasting between 15 and 20 hours. Speaking during a group press session at Gamescom 2026, associate game director Will Kennedy outlined the scope of the project, stating that the central questline is paired with a similar 15-to-20-hour block of side quests and open-world exploration. Beyond authored content, the developers emphasized that the title’s simulation and life systems allow for indefinite play depending on player investment. Full coverage of the interview context can be found in Polygon’s developer Q&A. This targeted duration keeps the reboot in line with the structure of Lionhead Studios' original trilogy rather than the massive scale of modern role-playing games. The 2004 original averaged roughly 12.5 hours for its main path, while Fable II and Fable III clocked in at approximately 13 and 13.5 hours respectively. By keeping the core path concise, Playground Games appears focused on density and narrative pacing rather than padding out the experience with mandatory filler. Community reception to the announcement has leaned positive, particularly among veteran players who prefer tightly structured campaigns over 100-hour commitments. As discussed in a active Reddit community thread, many players welcomed the focused runtime, noting that the series' signature alignment shifts and choice-driven paths naturally encourage multiple playthroughs. The game’s optional activities will include property ownership, local employment, and dynamic NPC interactions, extending gameplay well past the main story credits. Following previous delays, Fable is scheduled to launch on February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
