NetEase Issues Massive Marvel Rivals Ban Wave Following Security Exploits

NetEase Games has executed a major ban wave in Marvel Rivals, permanently removing 504 players caught utilizing unauthorized third-party software, client tampering, and gameplay cheats. The crackdown follows intense community scrutiny during Season 8 regarding the competitive integrity of the hero-shooter, alongside unverified claims that the game’s kernel-level anti-cheat system could be easily bypassed or deleted entirely by malicious users.

Penalty Announcement: Zero Tolerance on Cheats

Hi Rivals,

Recently, our telemetry detected that following the weekend update, a faction of rogue players began promoting and deploying unauthorized third-party enhancements. This blatant disruption of our fair battlefield has…

In a formal statement addressing the situation, the development team explicitly denied rumors regarding the vulnerability of its security software, clarifying that the in-house anti-cheat cannot be deactivated independently of the game client. NetEase reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for hardware manipulation, warning that repeat offenders will face escalating penalties. Future enforcement actions will expand beyond standard account terminations to include hardware-level restrictions, such as IP and full-device bans.

Data from the enforcement action revealed an unusual trend among the penalized accounts, as the vast majority of banned players had not progressed past Bronze or Silver—the lowest competitive tiers in the game. Only a minimal fraction of the infractions occurred within top-tier brackets like Grandmaster or One Above All. This distribution suggests that the bulk of the fraudulent activity stemmed from disposable accounts created specifically to test exploits without risking established profiles.

While the community has largely welcomed the aggressive stance against software manipulation, players continue to pressure NetEase to expand its moderation efforts toward environmental issues. Current community feedback highlights ongoing frustration with smurfing, intentional match throwing, and severe communication toxicity, which players argue disrupt matchmaking just as heavily as third-party software. With Season 8 scheduled to introduce the Alchemx Headquarters map and additional cosmetics over the coming weeks, maintaining a stable and fair competitive ecosystem remains crucial for the title’s long-term retention.
