Mind Scanner feels in a way quite similar to games like Papers Please, I still remember when that game was a huge hit when it released on PC back in 2013. It has been 13 years and people keep making games similar to it, which speaks about the influence it had in the medium considering many indie productions often go for some nostalgic vibes and tried and true formulas to break with the triple A monotony. Currently, Mind Scanner sits at a 94% discount, so if you were considering getting your hands on it now its the best time ever.
Mind Scanner for 1$
It’s just at one dollar, only one, which is insane for game that has so much quality behind. As always we can see that indie developers and small studios give us things to care about in the medium. As the game industry keeps pumping even more buggy triple A releases, indies give us a way to relax and disconnect from that side of gaming that has been in free fall for quite a while. As much as I wish for triple A studios to figure things out and understand that they should listen to us, it does seem highly unlikely.
Mind Scanner is definitely the kind of game that you drop once you fully complete it, but the experience might live with you for a very long time. Most times memories created by single player games far outlast the memories you made with live service titles, because the narrative just lives outside the game. While I will admit that Mind Scanner does feel a bit similar to Papers Please I feel like the execution is its own thing. It does feel more screwed than Papers Please but at the same time it does feel less grounded compared to it in a way.
