Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy is legendary, and even said to be the last hope of Square Soft before going bankrupt, the game was an instant hit when it came to the Famicom way back in the 80s. Games like Dragon Quest helped pioneer the genre of what we know as JRPGs and since then it has been quite an amazing thing to have on consoles, of course it was enjoyed more by the Japanese audience it was meant for, but the reach was global. Despite the fact that it was initially unpopular due to the fact that many didn’t like to read this has changed for the better and now even studios from France do it.

Final Fantasy focuses on PC

Square Enix has told us that the series is clearly aiming at the PC market now, why this decision even happened, we don’t really know, but we can assume that the current hardware crisis caused issues, along with the fact that reports from years ago claim that PC Gaming is taking a huge chunk of the market while consoles barely survive. Final Fantasy was always known as a staple of consoles, the series reaching huge peaks of popularity during the PS1 and PS2 era with strong sales to back it compared to today.

After many decisions and changes the series has dwindled in sales numbers, even dwarfing the ginormous numbers that it used to do back in the PS1 era. For every console in the install base of the PS1, there was definitely someone who bought at least one Final Fantasy game, be it either Final Fantasy 7, or 8, or 9, not to mention the modern ports for the classics existed too. If Square Enix wants to return to those glory days of fame and profitability, perhaps it needs to learn a thing or two from Clair Obscur’s handling.
