Open Gaming Collective made to push for Linux Gaming in 2026

Open Gaming Collective

Open Gaming Collective is a very important initiative handled by many groups of people. The Bazzite Linux distributors are one of the forces involved behind it, as it is a Linux flavor specifically made for the most demanding of PC gamers. This unprecedented push for Linux is a good thing, because its meant to free users from the burdens imposed by Microsoft, or should we call them Microslop and all its “AI” espionage agents living on your PC. If you value your privacy and leave important credentials saved on your computer, its rather futile to keep using Windows.

Open Gaming Collective rises

Another force behind this new rising collective of heroes is ASUS, the only company who decided to combat AI in the previous year’s Tech Fest, the only ones who showcased electronics for normal people. Open Gaming Collective happens to be a force to be reckoned with, and their missions is clear: “For too long, the Linux gaming ecosystem has been fragmented. Individual distributions have spent countless hours duplicating efforts on kernel patches, input tooling, and essential packages. The OGC changes the game by centralizing efforts around critical components like gamescope and hardware drivers.” This is what their beliefs are, and they are a good thing.

While I don’t agree with the goals of centralization, since the point of Linux is the decentralized nature of it all, perhaps this might be a good move for people who only care about doing gaming. It is crazy to see that people still believe that they need to wait for SteamOS even if its already out in the form of Bazzite or any other Arch based distro, but that’s the tech literacy of the average gamer. As more users join to become free from the clutches of Microslop the Open Gaming Collective will become stronger and so will Linux gamers.
