If you’re one of the players who’s really looking forward to the upcoming third person shooter based on the cinematic universe of John Wick, it seems you don’t have to wait for much longer as Lionsgate has recently confirmed the in-development title. In a recent earnings call, Lionsgate Chairman Adam Fogelson stated that a AAA John Wick game is indeed in development and will be announced soon, along with a new ‘SAW’ game as well which would be the second title after 2010’s SAW II: Flesh and Blood.
“Our AAA game opportunities and other gaming opportunities. around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon.”
It would be really interesting as to how a AAA John Wick title would play out, and while many players would immediately think of a Max Payne 3-like experience, chances are that it could be a significantly different flavor of action than Rockstar’s acclaimed third person shooter which, to a lot of players, remains as one of the greatest third person action experiences of all time. Cause unlike Max Payne, who has superhuman reflexes including bullet time straight from his first game, John Wick’s gunplay is more of a combination of good old cover-based shooting plus a ballet of gun-fu which is a sort of melee combat coupled with close quarter firefights.
And it seems this form of gun combat would be turned into the main gameplay experience for the upcoming John Wick title, as that way it can have it’s own signature brand of gunplay and identity as well. The gameplay could also aim to provide the kind of cinematic combat that was prevalent in the films and although a bit of slow mo wouldn’t feel too out of place, the devs could go for a different experience with John Wick than just slow mo shooting.
