Although Battlefield 6 is still the most played first person shooter of 2025 by a large margin, it seems EA’s flagship shooter is already way past it’s prime as it has lost around 85% of it’s total playerbase since it’s launch in October last year. According to Forbes, Battlefield 6 hit it’s peak of 747,440 player count 3 months ago with a 24-hour peak of 80,841 players and the game’s most recent concurrent player count is only 55,281.
The study by Forbes also highlights that ARC: Raiders, which came out roughly around the same time as Battlefield 6, has managed to keep a staggering 91% of it’s total playerbase intact since launch which is phenomenal. But as the game is an extraction shooter which operates on a fundamentally different blueprint than a regular FPS like Battlefield 6 or even Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, any direct comparison would be unfair.
Also, as the numbers only showcase one single platform (Steam) for these games, they don’t necessarily represent the entire spectrum of the playerbase for Battlefield 6 which are surely much higher if you take into account both consoles as well.
But still, the numbers don’t lie and clearly shows Battlefield 6 is on a decline lately which could be helped quite a bit by the upcoming steady stream of contents that EA has in store for the shooter that can sustain and may even re-grow the playerbase again into much higher numbers. All the assortment of new maps and modes that will “introduce fresh tactical opportunities and keep the experience evolving in meaningful ways” definitely sound promising and could likely see the playerbase expanding again.
However, it’s also up to EA to not cause any more ‘wrinkles’ into the overall experience such as complaints regarding use of generative AI for the game’s artworks or using similar design elements from 2013’s Call of Duty title for a new skin in Battlefield 6, all of which have been increasingly divisive for the playerbase so far. So if there’s no more of those in the future, Battlefield 6 could likely recover a sizable part of it’s earlier playerbase at some point, at least here’s hoping.
