2025 will go down in history as the year when Activision’s juggernaut Call of Duty franchise was finally toppled by it’s arch-rival Battlefield series which is shocking in more ways than one cause apart from Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto, no other franchise could ever come close to the annual sales numbers of Call of Duty, much less actually surpassing them. Even the most ardent fan of the Battlefield franchise would be hard pressed to think their favorite first person shooter could actually beat Call of Duty in terms of sales but as the numbers are finally out, we can clearly see that the best selling title of 2025 is none other than EA’s Battlefield 6.
According to Circana’s Matt Piscatella, the best selling videogame in the United States last year is Battlefield 6 with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 securing the 5th place, behind NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4 and Monster Hunter Wilds. This also effectively means that Battlefield 6, having released in October, had managed to outsold every other title of 2025 in just three months which is mighty impressive in every way.
