Take-Two CEO Comments on Civilization 7’s “Slow Start”, says “there are more changes coming”

Civilization 7

Civilization 7 hasn’t quite turned out to be the critical and commercial success that developer Firaxis had aimed with the game, as clearly evident by it’s current ‘mixed’ player review rating on Steam along with much lower player counts than Civilization 6 and even than the decade old Civilization 5. But according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, despite the game’s rocky start, Civilization 7 is actually projected to meet the publisher’s internal expectations on the long term.

“I think the key thing is that Civ has always been a slow burn. It’s always been a title that had — I’m not really a big believer in the long tail theory of the entertainment business — but Civ is an example of that theory. And right now our projections for the lifetime value of the title are very consistent with our initial expectations for the title.

“So while we were off to a slow start and while we have had to make changes — and there are more changes coming — I feel like consumer uptake is better and better and we feel really good about the title. I think over time it’s going to take its place in its civilization pantheon in a very successful, credible way.”

While publisher Take-Two hasn’t announced any official sales figure of Civilization 7, Zelnick’s words definitely sounds encouraging and supportive of the game which is great for anyone who’s enjoying it currently along with the developers as well. Firaxis Games has also released the massive patch 1.2.3 for the game which has implemented a ton of changes taken straight from the players’ feedback plus a plethora of improvements in the gameplay which will no doubt make the overall experience a lot better and polished for all players.

So if you were previously dissatisfied with Civilization 7, give the game another try with the latest update as it can offer a drastically different and much improved gameplay experience on all levels.

Civilization 7 was released on February 11 for the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One and Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and the PC platform (which includes both macOS and Linux). A VR port of the game will be available in spring 2025 for the Quest 3 and 3S platform, but no price or specific release date has been announced as of yet.
