Bethesda has shared a post on their social media yesterday hinting that the publisher might release some form of official announcement regarding the Oblivion Remake today, which may be an extended gameplay trailer or something similar at 11AM ET / 8AM PT / 4PM BST on Twitch and YouTube. This is definitely exciting for not just anyone who has played the original Oblivion which came out at 2006 but for any gamer who’s a fan of RPG’s.
Several screenshots were also leaked from developer Virtuos’ website, the studio working on the upcoming Oblivion Remake last week which showcased some comparison screenshots highlighting the colossal difference in visual fidelity from the original release and the upcoming Remake built on the Unreal Engine 5. When Oblivion was released back in 2006, it made huge strides on graphical richness and it seems the upcoming remake will offer similar levels of visual splendor and flourish when it comes out perhaps as early as this month.
Also, another recent leak suggests that the file size of the upcoming Oblivion Remake is 120.94 GB which is pretty reasonable for a game of similar scale and magnitude. And considering that the size of the original version was 5.58 GB, it means the remake is a whopping 2500% bigger.
However, the real highlight of the upcoming remake of Oblivion is it’s vastly improved and evolved gameplay mechanics which should make revisiting the world of Tamriel all the more worthwhile in 2025. Much like it’s successor Skyrim, Oblivion was held back largely by it’s gameplay which was clunky and pretty much the weakest part of the overall experience.
But if the remake manages to overhaul the combat of the original and make all the individual gameplay elements such as blocking, sneaking, stamina etc really shine, we’re looking at what could easily be one of the best gaming experiences of the year, period. A remake of Oblivion that’s powered by the Unreal Engine 5 with completely reworked gameplay has all the makings of one of the best RPG experiences of all time.
