SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered has shadow dropped on PC some days ago. Many didn’t expect this to happen, especially after all the hype that the Romancing SaGa 2 remake garnered. The SaGa series is a very interesting experiment in the RPG genre, and not many are brave enough to tackle its unique mechanics. The second entry on the SaGa Frontier sub series has been regarded as a very solid one, however, many fans claim its way too lineal for a SaGa game. SaGa is often a very open series, but there’s never a clear path, SaGa does what it wants. We at Infinite Start will cover these news.

SaGa Frontier 2 is art

One of the best parts of this game is the backgrounds and soundtrack. Playing SaGa Frontier 2 feels as playing an illustrated story book. The tale it tells is in fact quite fitting for one, and it can also fit an illustrated war chronicle. Despite the linearity of this entry, the stories presented are very solid, and the combat difficulty has been enhanced compared to the first entry. It is important to know that each SaGa game is often its own thing, so feel free to just start with this one if you don’t know where to start.

A personal favorite of mine is the original 1989 release for the GameBoy, which is quite the RPG with unique mechanics and plot twists that feels like something released not too long ago. The SaGa series is deeply inspired by the Gamma World roleplaying series of books, and it does in fact take a lot of concepts from it, especially when it comes to character diversity. SaGa Frontier 2 has to be the most grounded when it comes to diversity compared to other entries however, but this doesn’t imply that the game is bad.

The Remaster however seems to have been done in a rush, despite the new content added that couldn’t be a thing in the original due to budget issues, the upscaled visuals are truly an insult to the original PS1 release. Play this one for the extra content, and that’s it.
