Racing fans, get ready—Wreckfest 2 is coming. THQ Nordic has officially announced that the long-awaited sequel to Wreckfest will launch in early access on March 20, 2025. Developed by Bugbear Entertainment, this demolition derby racer is supposed to deliver even more metal-twisting chaos (and it’s not just talk) with improved crash physics, revamped armor systems and expanded online multiplayer options. For those who don’t know, Wreckfest made a name for itself in 2018 as a spiritual successor to classic destruction-based racers like FlatOut.
The game’s mix of high-speed racing and over-the-top vehicular mayhem was a hit among players; however, expectations are really high for Wreckfest 2. According to the developers, the sequel will feature a physics overhaul, reworked damage mechanics and a range of new tracks where up to 23 players can compete in chaotic multiplayer matches. Although there is excitement, some fans wonder if it can live up to its predecessor. This is something we will have to wait and see.
The newest trailer, which was released together with the announcement, gives a sneak peek of the chaos that is about to unfold. In just under a minute, it highlights derby cars crashing into each other, tires soaring across the track and the type of adrenaline-charged destruction that fans adore. However, Bugbear has hinted at the addition of more cars (and maybe some surprising “other vehicles”) as the game develops over time. This is interesting because the announcement has also sparked rumors about Wreckreation, another racing game supported by THQ Nordic that was revealed in 2022.
Although it had a lot of initial excitement, Wreckreation has become quiet, with no recent news or a release date in view. With Wreckfest 2 now taking center stage, some people are curious if Wreckreation has been quietly put aside. Meanwhile, THQ Nordic is staying active, with whispers circulating about a potential SpongeBob SquarePants game launching in 2025. If another showcase occurs this year, it could provide more information on what’s coming next for the publisher.
For now, however, all eyes are on Wreckfest 2 its upcoming early access launch is creating a buzz. With a bigger, better and more destructive racing experience coming soon, fans of chaotic competition have a lot to look forward to. Although some are skeptical about the changes, many are excited. This anticipation only adds to the excitement surrounding the game.
