MultiVersus Reportedly Shutting Down Its Online Servers

After months of uncertainty, MultiVersus has officially announced its decision to shut down its online services on May 30, 2025. Warner Bros. Games confirmed this, identifying the title’s inability to gain a strong player base despite its supposed promising start. However, players will still be able to access the game offline after the shutdown allowing for local multiplayer and co-op play.

Why MultiVersus is Going Offline

MultiVersus was launched in July 2022, although still in early access, the game saw a massive fan base and a strong engagement. Even more so when it was fully released on May 28, 2024. The free-to-play platform title featured a character roster of Warner Bros. characters like Batman, Bugs Bunny, and Shaggy with hopes of competing with titles like Super Smash Bros.

Despite early hype, player interest waned over time, and by late 2024, the game had cost Warner Bros. over $100 million. Live-service games have proven risky, with other high-profile failures like XDefiant, and MultiVersus ultimately couldn’t maintain a sustainable audience.

Key Shutdown Details

  • Online services will end on May 30, 2025, at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST.
  • Starting January 31, real-money purchases will be disabled, but players can still spend existing Gleamium or character tokens until Season 5 ends.
  • MultiVersus will be delisted from digital storefronts on consoles and PC.

Offline Play Will Still Be Available

The good news? MultiVersus won’t be completely unplayable after May 30. Players can still enjoy:

  • Single-player matches against AI
  • Local co-op with up to three friends

To ensure offline access, players must download the latest game version and log in at least once during Season 5 (starting February 4 at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST).

Final Season Brings Aquaman and Lola Bunny

The last season of MultiVersus drops next week, offering:

  • Aquaman as a Battle Pass reward
  • Lola Bunny as a free daily login reward

With MultiVersus entering its final stretch, now may be the best time for fans to grab their favorite characters and secure the game for offline play before it disappears from stores.

Playground Games Confirms 15-to-20 Hour Campaign for Fable Reboot Playground Games has confirmed that the upcoming Fable reboot will feature a mainline story lasting between 15 and 20 hours. Speaking during a group press session at Gamescom 2026, associate game director Will Kennedy outlined the scope of the project, stating that the central questline is paired with a similar 15-to-20-hour block of side quests and open-world exploration. Beyond authored content, the developers emphasized that the title’s simulation and life systems allow for indefinite play depending on player investment. Full coverage of the interview context can be found in Polygon’s developer Q&A. This targeted duration keeps the reboot in line with the structure of Lionhead Studios' original trilogy rather than the massive scale of modern role-playing games. The 2004 original averaged roughly 12.5 hours for its main path, while Fable II and Fable III clocked in at approximately 13 and 13.5 hours respectively. By keeping the core path concise, Playground Games appears focused on density and narrative pacing rather than padding out the experience with mandatory filler. Community reception to the announcement has leaned positive, particularly among veteran players who prefer tightly structured campaigns over 100-hour commitments. As discussed in a active Reddit community thread, many players welcomed the focused runtime, noting that the series' signature alignment shifts and choice-driven paths naturally encourage multiple playthroughs. The game’s optional activities will include property ownership, local employment, and dynamic NPC interactions, extending gameplay well past the main story credits. Following previous delays, Fable is scheduled to launch on February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
