All Modes in Marvel Rivals Explained

Just after its release, Marvel Rivals garnered millions of gamers who came to love it, not because it was a hero shooterbut because it offered exciting modes, fan-favorite characters, solid maps, and thrilling attacks for each character—including team-based attacks. All modes in Marvel Rivals differ in gameplay, players’ objectives, and rules.

All Modes in Marvel Rivals allow players to literally fight against other Marvel heroes while using their favorite Marvel characters from TV. Furthermore, players can use their chosen characters to play all the modes in Marvel Rivals. Ranging from Convoy to Domination, players can try out all of them and may also decide to stick to those they feel are more suited for their playstyle.

While Marvel Rivals’ Season 0 only offers 4 unique modes to the game, each mode comes with its own maps, offering something unique each time a player decides to play a different mode. To elaborate, this article contains a breakdown of all modes in Marvel Rivals and their distinct maps.

All Modes in Marvel Rivals

As stated earlier, Marvel Rivals includes 4 different modes in the game which all have their exclusive maps. On that note, below are all modes in Marvel Rivals, including the maps they feature.

Domination

Domination requires players to gain control of the signified capture point, otherwise called Mission Area, on the map and resist enemy attacks from the opposing team while remaining in the Mission Area. If members of the enemy team come into the mission area while the other team is capturing the mission area, the bar progression comes to a halt as both teams are fighting for the capture point.

Notably, the bar progression continues moving again when a team is pushed out of the mission area or wiped out, leaving only the winning team in the capture point. When the progression reaches the highest point, the team that captured the Mission Area till 100%, wins. On that note, the bar progresses by 1% every 1.2 seconds, and gets filled up at 100%.

Domination has three rounds. Hence, one team would have to win at least 2 rounds to secure the overall win for that match. Out of all modes in Marvel Rivals, this is the most aggressive as members of both teams seek to take control over the Mission Area while shots are being exchanged. As stated earlier, all modes in Marvel Rivals have their different maps in the game. On that note, here are the three maps that the Domination mode offers players:

  • Yggsgard: Royal Palace
  • Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Birnin T’Challa
  • Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven

Convoy

Convoy is another exciting mode in Marvel Rivals that requires a team, known as the attacking team, to escort a moving vehicle to the other end of the map. The goal of the other team – otherwise called the defending team – is to stop the attacking team from successfully escorting the vehicle. The defending team can do that by either wiping out the escorting team or contesting the vehicle.

At the start of a Convoy match, the defending team is allowed to leave their spawn area to immediately intercept the vehicle and ambush the opposing team. However, the attacking team is required to remain in the spawn area till 30 seconds are over. The attacking team can get the vehicle moving only when they capture it. The vehicle keeps moving as long as there’s a team member of the attacking team nearby. That said, the higher the number of members from the attacking team near the vehicle, the faster it moves.

There are two checkpoints available in each match. And the attacking team is required to escort the vehicle past those checkpoints while making their way to the end of the map. There’s also a timer which countdown to zero, and if the attacking team doesn’t make it to the end of the map before the time’s up, they lose. Notably, reaching a checkpoint adds extra time for the attacking team, giving the attacking a little advantage. However, when the attacking team is wiped out and the vehicle is captured by the defending team, it starts rolling backwards until the last checkpoint. After which the defending team wins when the timer gets to zero.

Finally, there are two unique maps available for the Convoy mode which are:

  • Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path
  • Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands

Convergence

Convergence is the most unique of all modes in Marvel Rivals. Covergence combines features from both Domination and Convoy. Two teams, namely the attacking team and defending team, are required to reach and capture the Mission Area in order to release the vehicle and go past two checkpoints to win. Just like in Convoy, the defending team are allowed outside their spawn area early on.

Here are the maps available for Convergence:

  • Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya
  • Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Hall of Djalia
  • Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface

Conquest

Conquest is Marvel Rivals’ version of Team Deathmatch. Two teams group against each other to keep eliminating members of the opposing team till time runs out or till a team reaches 50 points. When a player gets eliminated by the enemy team, points for killing the hero would be dropped behind. As stated earlier, these points add up till 50 before any team can claim the win. Out of all modes in Marvel Rivals, Conquest is the most popular.

Notably, Conquest can only be manually selected by players, and cannot be played in Quick Play or Competitive. That said, the Conquest mode only has one map currently namely:

  • Tokyo 2099: Warped Ninomaru

All modes in Marvel Rivals offer intriguing features and exciting gameplay for players who love to try out various characters or those seeking to master their favorite heroes. Since this is just the first season of Marvel Rivals, players can expect more features, modes, heroes, and maps in the coming seasons. And that’s something all Marvel Rivals fans look forward to.
