Nintendo Files New Wireless Device With FCC, Not a Console

Nintendo has submitted a new device for approval to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Fans anticipating the reveal of the highly-rumored Switch 2 may need to temper their excitement, as this latest filing suggests something entirely different.

This is “wireless device,” which does not appear to be a gaming console. The confidential details of this application will remain under wraps until March 2025, leaving fans speculating about its nature. The device is a “roughly square object with curved corners” and includes a USB-C connection for power. It also features a 24GHz mmWave sensor, often used for detecting movement in rooms, leading to speculation about potential smart home features or motion-based gaming applications.

Similarly, this device isn’t part of the Nintendo Switch 2 product line and lacks a battery, which suggests that it could be a new peripheral rather than a standalone gaming console. The product code “CLO-001” seems to imply it’s being treated as a unique entity.

With details scarce and much of the information being withheld by Nintendo, it’s anyone’s guess what this new device might be. Whether it’s a gaming peripheral or something entirely new, we’ll have to wait for more information to surface.
