Krafton Acquires Tango Gameworks and Revives Hi-Fi Rush

Hi-Fi RUSH is the First Breakout Hit and Must-Play Game of 2023

Here’s some much needed feel-good news: following their shutdown by Microsoft in May, Tango Gameworks has now been given a second life through Krafton. The South Korean publisher over Striking Distance Studios (The Callisto Protocol) and PUBG Studios (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds… obviously), among others, has announced their acquisition of Tango Gameworks, including the rights to the Hi-Fi Rush IP.

Tango Gameworks is known for their work on The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo and the aforementioned rhythm-based action game, Hi-Fi Rush. Now one of those properties, along with whatever the creative minds at Tango cook up over the coming years, are under Krafton. And the developer’s new home has wasted no time announcing that more Hi-Fi Rush is on the way, all-but confirming that one of Tango Gameworks’ unknown in-development projects at the time of their closure was the anticipated sequel.

Krafton will focus on collaborating with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition of the Tango Gameworks staff as they settle in to their new digs. Furthermore, the acquisition will have zero impact on the availability of the studio’s previous titles, which were outlined above. So rest assured that if, for whatever reason, you haven’t grabbed any of the team’s titles, you won’t be barred from doing so.

While Hi-Fi Rush 2 has essentially been confirmed, we don’t know what other future projects Krafton has planned for them. But I will say, if I were in the publisher’s shoes, coming off a less-than-ideal reception for The Callisto Protocol, I’d be leveraging the horror expertise of the Evil Within developer to take another stab at the Dead Space spiritual successor. We’ll just have to see how Tango Gameworks’ talents are put to use in the coming years.
