Destiny 2 Players are Mad About the Exotic Class Item Drop Rate Changes 34534

Earlier today Bungie released Destiny 2 update 8.0.5, which includes desired changes like adding weapon attunement for Onslaught, and changes how the divisive Exotic class item obtain rate.

Adjusted chances for acquiring Exotic class items from chests to be more generous.

  • Increased progression on escalation chest chances.
  • Removed progression on world chest chances.
  • World chests can still drop the item but won’t increase drop chances from future chests.

At the time of announcement players were unsure if this would be a positive, or negative change. Tying the class item to Pale Heart Escalation chests meant performance mattered, so for select people it might actually be slower, though certainly had the potential to be more rewarding. Through it all many understood the main reason for this change was eliminating the popular auto-chest macro that was going around.

Now that the update is out, players largely agree this change was a massive step backwards.

Current reports indicate a single drop, which has a 1 in 64 chance of being the desired combo, is taking three or more Overthrows to complete. To put this into perspective, prior to the patch I was averaging an Exotic class item in 15 to 20 minutes, with this change pushing it beyond 30 minutes.

Update: Since posting a few other topics have gained traction. The general consensus remains the rate is much slower than prior.

Bungie has not commented on the ongoing concerns. There is speculation this nerf was intended as a way to encourage players to play more Dual Destiny, whereas it’s possible the change isn’t working as intended.
