Netflix and Mojang Studios have teamed up to create a new animated series based on the popular game, Minecraft. This announcement was part of the celebrations for the game’s 15th anniversary. The series, produced by WildBrain Studios, promises an original story featuring new characters in the Minecraft universe.
The teaser trailer gives a glimpse of what’s to come, showing a lone Creeper that explodes, followed by scenes from the Nether, ending with Netflix’s red ‘N’ logo.
Netflix and Mojang Studios aim to bring fresh perspectives to the beloved game through this new series. WildBrain Studios, known for projects like Sonic Prime and Carmen Sandiego, will develop the animation. While there’s no release date yet, Netflix has indicated it will be available soon.
In addition to this series, a live-action Minecraft movie is in production. Initially set for release in March 2022, the film’s premiere has been rescheduled to April 4, 2025, due to production changes. The movie will feature stars such as Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge.
The upcoming movie will focus on the Ender Dragon’s path of destruction and the brave adventurers trying to save the Overworld. This film and the new animated series show Netflix’s commitment to expanding the Minecraft universe for fans old and new.
