As we start to enter the holiday season, some of the years biggest titles are set to release. These include some major releases, such as God of War, along with plenty of smaller titles, and impressive ports. With so much going on it’s likely going to be a very interesting month for most gamers.
Headlining this month is God of War Ragnarok. This adventure brings Kratos’ second saga to an end and already has an impressive 94 on Metacritic. It was be interesting to see if fans feel as strongly as critics, but one thing is for certain, it’s a title that everyone will be talking about for a while.
Nintendo releases the next-generation of Pokemon games with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Given some of the recent spinoffs have taken the franchise in an interesting direction, along with a call to go in unexplored areas, there is a lot of hope this entry will make some massive waves. But, even if it falls short, it will likely still be a solid RPG.
If we’re being honest, it has been a while since Sonic released a great game. With Sonic Frontiers, Sega is taking the franchise is going in a new direction that players hope will revitalize the beloved character. Given everything we’ve seen it could go either way, but that doesn’t stop it from being a title on many players radar.
It would be fair to say the The Dark Pictures Anthology is something of a mixed experience. Most have cool concepts that fail to either grip players or make the most of the idea. While we have no clue how The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me will play out, the initial trailer was creepy enough to be interesting and promises to close out the franchises first collection of stories.
PC gamers will finally get to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales later this month. Adding onto the already great Marvel’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales offers a new protagonist to explore the iconic version of New York.
With an interesting take on the western genre, Evil West hopes to blast gamers with impressive gameplay. With it already having enough style, it just comes down to whether it can capitalize on the idea or if it will fall short in the long run.
Gungrave makes it return this month with Gungrave G.O.R.E. This is an interesting title, as a lot of time went into developing the latest entry. With the original protagonist confirmed as an unlockable, along with far more stylish cutscenes, it looks to be a treat for fans or the originals.
Recently a number of games have found success merging two different genres together. The most recent example of this is Cult of the Lamb, which added town management aspects to rogue-lite gameplay. Harvestella does similar things with the RPG genre. By merging life simulation with Square Enix‘s robust history of quality RPGs it has the chance to be something really interesting.
It Takes Two finally drifts onto Nintendo Switch this month. The delightful title surprised many by being thoughtful and engaging. In fact, it was so well received it won Game of the Year from last years Game Awards. With Switch being a great platform for playing with friends, it seems like a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a good co-op game.
Sifu was a surprise hit for many players. Combat hit that sweet spot, with more than enough depth to make for really impressive combos. Given a number of patches improved the already strong foundation, it’s great to see more players having the opportunity to test it out.
Tactics Ogre is back with a remaster of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. Given the original release was quite well regarded, this traditional RPG experience will likely appeal to returning fans and newcomers alike. Hopefully resulting in another entry or at least remaster in the future.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is one of the better recently released Ys games. Taking place on a small island, players are tasked with trying to survive against a number of threats. With the PlayStation 5 version improving on the original, it’s a solid choice for the action RPG fans out there.
Bravery and Greed is another genre mix up releasing in Nov. Combining a beat ’em up with roguelike elements seems like a winning combo. It will be interesting to see if it lives up to the promise or if it falls short of greatness.
